कभी-कभी, लेकिन केवल तब जब broker की process में instruction final न हुई हो। OCC Rule 801 के अनुसार clearing member का exercise notice applicable deadline पर irrevocable हो जाता है। Customer cutoffs इससे पहले हो सकते हैं, इसलिए broker से तुरंत संपर्क करें।
Customer request को OCC notice से अलग रखें
Customer सामान्यतः brokerage firm को exercise या do-not-exercise request भेजता है। Firm फिर अपने clearing process के जरिए operational message संभालती है।
ये अलग stages हैं। Broker system में editable दिख रही request उस exercise notice के समान नहीं है जो final clearing deadline तक पहुंच चुकी हो।

Applicable cutoff से पहले change संभव हो सकता है
Expiration पर नई information आने के बाद investor default exercise result बदलना चाह सकता है। Broker change स्वीकार करेगा या नहीं, यह customer cutoff और operating procedure पर निर्भर है।
OIC समझाता है कि exercise-by-exception clearing members के लिए OCC process है, customer instructions का substitute नहीं। Broker अभी instructions स्वीकार कर रहा हो तो holder contrary instructions दे सकता है।
Exchange procedures Contrary Exercise Advice को submission cutoff से पहले cancel या resubmit करने की अनुमति भी देती हैं। यह operational window retail customer के लिए वही deadline होने की guarantee नहीं है।

Final deadline के बाद exercise notice सामान्य cancelable order नहीं है

उस deadline के बाद clearing member ordinary process में notice revoke या modify नहीं कर सकता। इसलिए customer exercise request को ऐसे limit order की तरह न समझे जिसे कभी भी cancel किया जा सकता है।
OCC rules में specified bona fide errors सुधारने की procedures हैं। यह clearing members के operational error process के लिए है, deadline के बाद investment decision reverse करने का routine customer right नहीं।
Expiration-day reversal request को process करें
मान लें expiration पर एक 100-strike call open है। Stock regular session में 100.20 पर close होता है, इसलिए उस समय call में प्रति शेयर $0.20 intrinsic value है।
Standard 100-share deliverable के साथ exercise strike पर $10,000 stock purchase बनाएगी। Regular-close intrinsic amount $20 है: $0.20 × 100।
अब मान लें after hours stock 99.80 पर trade करता है और holder do-not-exercise instruction चाहता है। Holder को broker की applicable customer deadline से पहले पहुंचना और accepted method follow करना होगा।
यदि broker confirm करता है कि instruction पहले ही final है, तो after-hours move उसे reverse करने का सामान्य अधिकार नहीं बनाता। Resulting stock position और funding requirement को अलग manage करना होगा।

Option close करना और exercise cancel करना अलग actions हैं
Sell-to-close order long option तभी हटाता है जब option अभी trade के लिए उपलब्ध हो और order execute हो। यह exercise instruction के लिए generic cancellation command नहीं है।
Exercise final होने पर economic result contract में specified underlying या cash settlement होता है। दूसरा option order exercise undo करने के बजाय नई position बना सकता है।
Uncertain status के आसपास trade न करें। Broker से पूछें कि contract अभी open है या नहीं, exercise बदली जा सकती है या नहीं और processing के बाद कौन-सी position बचेगी।

Position पर फिर action लेने से पहले instruction record करें।
- Contract, quantity, exercise या do-not-exercise choice और submission time save करें

Exercise cancellation को assignment से अलग रखें
Long holder लागू rules के भीतर exercise का निर्णय लेता है। Short writer को holder exercise allocate होने के बाद assignment मिलती है और वह दूसरे investor का exercise decision cancel नहीं कर सकता।

क्या market close के बाद exercise से do not exercise पर बदल सकता हूं?
कभी-कभी, यदि broker उस expiration के लिए contrary instructions अभी स्वीकार करता हो। Customer cutoff clearing-member deadline से पहले हो सकता है, इसलिए after-hours trading से change उपलब्ध रहने की guarantee नहीं मिलती।
Exercise गलती से submit हो गई हो तो?
Broker को तुरंत report करें। OCC rules में clearing-member level पर specified bona fide errors के लिए सीमित procedures हैं, लेकिन correctly processed investment decision reverse करने का यह general customer right नहीं है।
क्या option बेचने से submitted exercise cancel हो जाती है?
ऐसा न मानें। Exercise final होने पर बाद का option order उसे cancel करने के बजाय separate position बना सकता है। दूसरा trade रखने से पहले exercise status और बची रहने वाली position confirm करें।
