Exercise option holder द्वारा contract right का इस्तेमाल है; assignment exercise notice allocate होने के बाद short-option writer पर डाली गई obligation है। Long call exercise underlying को strike पर खरीदता है, जबकि assigned short call उसे deliver करता है। Long put exercise underlying को strike पर बेचता है, जबकि assigned short put उसे खरीदता है। दोनों contract event के जुड़े हुए sides हैं, लेकिन अलग accounts में होते हैं और interchangeable terms नहीं हैं
Exercise holder का, assignment writer का
Long option का owner contract terms के भीतर exercise करना या न करना नियंत्रित करता है। Open short option का writer उस short position को exercise नहीं करता। इसके बजाय same series का holder exercise notice भेजे और clearing व broker allocation उस account तक पहुँचे तो writer assigned हो सकता है
Holder और writer original trade के वही दो पक्ष होना जरूरी नहीं है। Exchange-traded positions clearing के बाद fungible होती हैं, इसलिए OCC notices clearing members में बाँटता है और assigned firm अपनी approved method से eligible short account चुनती है। Option बेचने से किसी खास buyer के साथ स्थायी matching नहीं बनती
Calls और puts में परिणाम उलटे होते हैं
Long call exercise करने पर holder strike पर underlying खरीदने के लिए cash देता है और call writer को deliver करना पड़ता है। Short call assignment में account से shares जा सकते हैं या contract के अनुसार adjusted deliverable देना पड़ सकता है
Standard long call exercise करने पर आम तौर पर strike पर 100 shares खरीदे जाते हैं; corresponding short call assignment में 100 shares deliver करने पड़ते हैं। Long put exercise में आम तौर पर strike पर 100 shares बेचे जाते हैं; corresponding short put assignment में 100 shares खरीदने पड़ते हैं। Adjusted contracts का deliverable अलग हो सकता है
Long put exercise में holder strike पर underlying बेचने का अधिकार इस्तेमाल करता है। Assigned short put writer को वही deliverable खरीदना पड़ता है। Cash-settled या adjusted contracts में shares के बजाय उनके specified cash या package का परिणाम हो सकता है
Timing और account display एक जैसे नहीं होते
American-style equity option में short position खुली रहने तक expiration से पहले भी assignment हो सकता है। European-style option early exercise रोक सकता है, लेकिन expiration processing अलग नियमों के तहत हो सकती है। Exercise notice, clearing allocation, broker posting और settlement अलग समय पर दिख सकते हैं
Assignment का अनुमान लगाना और confirmation पाना अलग हैं। Closing order fully execute न हो तो short खुला रहता है। Assignment के बाद option हटना, stock या cash flow, buying power और settlement को अलग-अलग verify करें

आम सवाल
क्या option बेचने वाला writer अपने short option को exercise कर सकता है?
नहीं। Writer की short position exercise right नहीं देती। Holder exercise notice भेज सकता है और allocation होने पर writer assigned होकर call में deliver या put में purchase obligation पूरी करता है
क्या exercise करने वाला buyer सीधे original seller को assign करता है?
नहीं। Clearing के बाद contracts fungible हो जाते हैं। OCC notice को clearing member short accounts में बाँटता है और broker अपनी approved method से eligible customer short चुनता है। Original buyer और seller का स्थायी pair नहीं रहता
क्या short leg assign होने पर spread का long leg automatically exercise होता है?
नहीं। Short assignment और long exercise अलग events हैं। Remaining option, stock position, settlement और broker handling confirm करें, फिर long leg को बेचना, exercise करना या खुला रखना तय करें
Exercise और assignment के बाद account में क्या जाँचूँ?
Contract count, strike, actual deliverable, shares या cash, fees, buying power, remaining options और settlement date मिलाएँ। Partial assignment और adjusted contract में standard share assumption गलत हो सकती है, इसलिए official record देखें
