A continuous line can roll from one quarterly contract to another or adjust older values when its underlying month changes. Do not apply the intermonth-spread value to an outright screen or assume every pair of displayed months is the same quote type.

Bid, ask, last, daily settlement, and final settlement carry different jobs

Bid and ask describe displayed interest on opposite sides of a market. Last trade records a completed transaction. Daily settlement is an exchange-labelled daily value, while final settlement is the SOQ-based value for an expiring MES contract. These fields may differ without any one of them being an error.

A source, session, and status label determine what an MES number can support

Record whether the data is real-time, delayed, closed, paused, indicative, or labelled another way by its provider. A timestamp establishes when the observation was recorded, not that an order can execute at it. The session and source also matter when two MES values appear to conflict.
